Breast Cancer Education Association

Encourage. Engage. Empower. These are the words that describe the work of the Breast Cancer Education Association (BCEA), a local organization helping to educate our community about breast cancer and serving many of the same women Firefly Sisterhood serves. With a mission to provide support and information about detection, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship, BCEA offers insight into many of the questions people have about breast cancer.

BCEA was co-founded in the Twin Cities by Lois Joseph and Ann Harris. Ann is a nurse who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 39 years old. Lois was diagnosed three months later and the two connected quickly when Ann was Lois’s nurse. Both felt the fear and confusion that often accompany a diagnosis. Knowing others shared similar feelings when facing breast cancer, the two women formed BCEA and put together the first annual Breast Cancer Education Conference.

The conference features medical and therapeutic breast health experts, as well as a resource area. It draws breast cancer survivors – including male survivors and others who have been impacted by the disease – and offers information, community, empowerment, and hope. With speakers focused on relevant topics, be sure to visit BCEA’s website to register: www.breastcancereducation.org

Beyond the annual conference, BCEA has expanded their educational offerings to include hosting live webinars as an additional resource. Past topics include recurrence, finding hope, fertility, and lymphedema; recordings of past webinars are available on their website for replay.

Firefly Sisterhood is grateful to be in community with the Breast Cancer Education Association!
