Meet our new board chair

With all growth comes change, and Firefly Sisterhood is no exception. Our first year brought 75 connections, and we more than doubled that number by the end of this past May, which signaled the end of our second year. Much of this progress could not have happened without the highly active work and support of our phenomenal board of directors.

June brought the changeover from outgoing chairwoman, Jane Welch (to whom we extend our deepest gratitude!), to our current chairwoman, Jean Radeztsky. Having been with us since Firefly’s inception, Jean brings a wealth of relevant experience to her position.

In 2013, the first few original board members were searching for additional talent and commitment. Hillary Feder, who had already joined the board, shared with her friend, Jean, the concept, mission, and plans for the inauguration of Firefly Sisterhood. Jean met with executive director, Kris Newcomer, to learn more details about the planned organization. In Jean’s words, “There was absolutely no question that I wanted to join the board. It was the mission that attracted me!” And the timing was right, as Jean had recently stepped down from her role on the executive committee of the Brain Injury Alliance board.

Through her career and life work, Jean brings myriad skills to her position on Firefly’s board. She began her career in the hotel business but moved into human resources early on, all while honing her leadership, management skills, and business experience. But it was her 2009 jump into owning her own business that really excited Jean.

As founder and owner of Avail coaching and consulting, Jean offers three specialties to her clients: leadership development; career coaching; and human resources. Asked what she brings to the board, Jean says, “Firefly Sisterhood is a business. Being a business owner, I know how opening a business works and am able to bring a broader view.”

Jean also has extensive practice in strategic planning. As Firefly begins year three and looks ahead to the future, Jean “wants to help with a new direction and look at steering the boat a little differently.” While much within our organization will remain the same, we look forward to positive transitions and the advancement of the organization under Jean’s experienced leadership!
