Pathways, a Healing Center

Integrative health. Complementary therapies. Holistic healing. These terms have become buzzwords as people search for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing beyond, perhaps, what their medical team can provide. In an effort to reach optimal health and wellness, regardless of life circumstances, individuals are finding benefit from often centuries-old therapies, while research continues to prove their worth.

For those interested in exploring healing that considers the whole person – mind, body, spirit, and emotional health – Pathways offers the space, expertise, and community to do so. Located in Minneapolis, Pathways’ mission is to provide resources and services for people with life-threatening or chronic physical illness to explore and experience complementary healing approaches. This nonprofit organization was founded on the idea that everyone should have access to complementary healing methods as active participants in their own health journeys. Volunteer providers, experts in their fields, provide services and healing sessions at no charge. Examples of services include bodywork, creative arts therapies, wellness and nutrition classes, meditation, and movement practices.

It’s no surprise that Pam Lampert, one of Firefly Sisterhood’s Guides, found a special connection to Pathways. Wanting to take an active role in her healing following a breast cancer diagnosis, Pam walked into the welcoming space of Pathways and immediately thought to herself, “There’s something really special here for me.” She took advantage of many different therapies and services throughout her treatment, as well as participating in their signature Renewing Life course. “Being with people who are there simply to help you heal…there’s nothing like it,” Pam says.

Experiencing Pathways was life changing for Pam. As soon as she felt physically and emotionally strong enough following treatment, Pam returned to become a Renewing Life facilitator; four years later, she continues to find great nourishment in this role. So much so, that she recently joined their board of directors. “I have such passion for what the organization does, for the providers, for the people they serve. I encourage people everywhere I am, either someone going through a health crisis or a caregiver, to check it out. I probably talk about it too much! I want people to find out what works for them at Pathways.”

When asked what words she would use to describe Pathways, Pam had no trouble coming up with these words: warmth, connection, community, love, heart, healing, support, and people. With Firefly Sisterhood’s work focusing on psychosocial support following a breast cancer diagnosis, we know the importance of these descriptors. We are proud to share in Pathways’ goal of improving the lives of people in our community who have faced a health crisis.

For our participants who would like to experience a taste of Pathways, feel the warmth of their space, and connect with other Firefly participants and staff, we hope you’ll join us at our upcoming Summer Social on Tuesday, July 18th, from 5-8 pm. Register here!
