Third in a Series of Personal Breast Cancer Stories: Holly Raby

Holly RabyMetastatic breast cancer brings with it a unique set of questions, challenges, and fears. When Holly Raby was diagnosed at age 37, she was told that her breast cancer had already spread to her lungs and liver. She quickly realized that her prior understanding of breast cancer and its treatment was entirely unfitting in her situation. “That was not going to be my story.” Holly knew she needed to advocate for herself, seeking out information and attempting to connect with others living with metastatic disease. This was no easy feat, but one Holly continued to pursue, knowing she needed to do everything possible to educate herself and find others sharing a similar experience.

Fast forward a few years during which Holly juggled the intense demands of home life, motherhood, work, and treatment and its physical and emotional effects, and Holly found herself in a place that many of our Guides find themselves: eager to share her story and offer support to other women while working to increase awareness of metastatic breast cancer. Holly specifically wants to help other women “figure out how metastatic disease fits into [one’s] life,” which she does every day with impactful and humbling results.

As a young woman living years beyond her initial prognosis, Holly brings a unique and lovely perspective to our Guide pool. Listen to her words of inspiration: Holly’s Story
