When to listen

When to Listen…or Notscreen-shot-2016-10-04-at-12-57-36-pm

A breast cancer diagnosis comes, and with it, words: words of support; words of advice; words of concern; words of experience; and so many more through which to sort. A poet, writer, and breast cancer survivor, Felicia Mitchell writes in a recent article of CURE magazine about the need both to listen, and not to listen, in the face of cancer. Listening to a trusted member of your care team and listening to the words of your gut are two examples of times to pay close attention. Listening to an ‘expert’ tell you how the latest treatment fad she read about online will cure you? Maybe not. Having someone at your side during the onslaught of appointments who can listen for you (and take notes!) when you’re no longer able to process the words coming at you? Priceless. To whom will you choose to listen? Trust that your intuition will tell you.
