Minnesota Cancer Alliance

Imagine living in a state where the numerous burdens of a cancer diagnosis are greatly reduced. A state where preventable cancers do not occur, where people who develop cancer are diagnosed in the earliest stage possible, where people with cancer are given the highest quality, state-of-the-art care available, where preventable disparities in care are eliminated, and where full support is given to cancer-related research. This is the vision of the Minnesota Cancer Alliance, of which Firefly Sisterhood is delighted to be a member.

The Alliance is a broad partnership of organizations and leaders from throughout the state whose mission is to reduce the burden of cancer for all Minnesotans. We can all get behind that! Working together to promote the goals of the upcoming Cancer Plan Minnesota 2025, MCA is led by a steering committee whose voluntary members provide leadership and policy direction for the Alliance.

Cancer Plan Minnesota 2025 sets forth 19 objectives, including tobacco cessation, reducing health disparities, and increasing the use of palliative and hospice care, among others. Firefly Sisterhood is particularly committed to the following objectives of the Cancer Plan:

  • Objective 5: Connect cancer patients and caregivers with the support services they need.
  • Objective 7: Increase the use of survivorship care plans.

Our One-to-One matching program and other community-based services we provide directly further these objectives.

We are particularly excited about attending the annual Cancer Summit, providing us with the opportunity to network with others committed to improving health care for all Minnesotans. The topical breakouts focus on cancer survivorship and are sure to be especially relevant to us. We look forward to incorporating what we learn into the work we do and sharing this with you.
